Cohabitation Strategies co-initiated the Right to the City, BeNeLux Chapter, movement in 2010. A series of meetings and discussions among urban activists and citizens began raising awareness of the pressing urban issues going on in European urban centers as well as in several cities in the Netherlands. Those dialogs were massively disseminated when the Right to the City became part of the program of TodaysArt 2010 Music Festival in the Hague. The Right to the City is an urban movement that was assembled with the need to confront and counter the destructive neoliberal urban policies that have hijacked our cities. Social segregation, gentrification, spatial polarization, displacement of low income citizens, privatization of social housing stock, services and public space, increase of public-private partnerships, free-market oriented housing developments, squatting ban, securitization, city branding and partial citizens participation are among the urgent problematics this movement aims to confront as an international alliance of civil organizations, concerned citizens, professionals and academics.
