cooperative for socio-spatial research, design & development

Gabriela Rendón graduated as an architect at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, Mexico and in year 1999 opened her practice in the border territory of Tijuana/San Diego. After several years of practice in both sides of the border, she moved to the Netherlands in year 2004 following an urbanism master degree at Delft University of Technology, where she currently works as a guest teacher, and follows PhD studies. Her work combines research and practice focusing in urban conflicted areas, marginalization, urban decline, restructuring, and counteracting civil action in the US/Mexican border, as well as in Europe. Her recent research centers in European Politics and Methods of Socio-Spatial Restructuring in Low-income Quarters, focusing on the instances where there has been an insertion of inclusive planning policies and practices into traditional bureaucratic planning systems, either of new urban development or renewal. She is a co-founder and active member of ‘Cohabitation Strategies.org’, and in practice she has been involved in different projects working in multi-scale urban restructuring processes, urban analysis, spatial strategies, and urban design. Her work has been exhibited in ‘Strange New World’ at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art (MCASD), ‘World View Cities’ at the Architectural League in New York, ‘UrbanPlus’ in Zurich and in the ‘4th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam’ in Rotterdam.
