cooperative for socio-spatial research, design & development

Thomas Purcell is a Social Scientist from the University of Manchester researching in ‘radical endogenous development’. He finished his PhD dissertation on cooperative economic systems and endogenous development. Empirically his research addresses how, under what conditions, and for what purpose new social relations are being produced. It engages with contemporary Marxist debates as a means by which, to explore ‘alternative economies’ in action and, to critically evaluate notions of resistance to global neoliberalism. More broadly, his research interests are motivated by the global restructuring of state, capital, and labour relations and how this is theorized within Historical Materialism and International Political Economy. His work as researcher spans from Latin America to Europe.
