{"id":791,"date":"2014-07-29T11:09:11","date_gmt":"2014-07-29T15:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cohstra.org\/?p=791"},"modified":"2014-10-06T13:42:32","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T17:42:32","slug":"cohabitation-strategies-hiring-a-part-time-urban-researcher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cohstra.org\/?p=791","title":{"rendered":"COHABITATION STRATEGIES IS HIRING A PART-TIME URBAN RESEARCHER"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.<\/h1>\n<p>Cohabitation Strategies is hiring a part-time Urban Researcher for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cohstra.org\/?page_id=755\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Action Unions Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>URBAN RESEARCHER WITH EXPERIENCE IN GEOGRPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) AND DATA VISUALIZATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Part-time urban researcher with experience in GIS (QGIS preferred) and data visualization, to support an urban research project coordinated by Cohabitation Strategies for Mural Arts Program\u2019s Restore Spaces. The research will take place in the City of Philadelphia, PA. However, it will be conducted from New York City. The position is for only two months, from October to November 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Conduct quantitative research and analysis related to land use, environmental, economic, sociological, and other statistics in specific neighborhoods.<br \/>\n2. Creating, managing and analyzing urban data sets in GIS, including management of geographic databases and geospatial analysis.<br \/>\n3. Generating data tables.<br \/>\n4. Visualizing and disseminating quantitative research in a clear, creative and accesible way, taking into account the main audience: community members, project partners, team members and artists collaborating with Mural Arts Program\u2019s Restore Spaces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Proficiency in and demonstrated knowledge of GIS (QGIS and ArcGIS), cartography, geospatial<br \/>\ndatabase design, database maintenance, spatial modeling, and mapping application development.<br \/>\n2. Basic understanding of relational databases.<br \/>\n3. Visual communication and computer skills required, especially with Abobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator<br \/>\nand In-Design) and Computer Aided Drafting software (i.e. Autocad, Vectorworks, etc.)<br \/>\n4. Expertise in data visualization, ability to convey GIS\/spatial information to non-GIS\/technical people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:\u2028<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Masters desired, Bachelor\u2019s Degree (minimum) in Geography, Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Urban Ecology or related field.<br \/>\n2. Knowledge of general principles and practices of urban research.<br \/>\n3. Ability to plan, organize and schedule work assignments with limited supervision.<br \/>\n4.
