Cohabitation Strategies is an international non-profit cooperative for socio-spatial research, design and development based in Rotterdam and New York City which focuses on conditions of urban decline, inequality and segregation within the contemporary city. The cooperative brings different methodologies to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the agents affecting urban areas and provides trans-disciplinary working frameworks and processes to catalyze grassroots led transformations.
Cohabitation Strategies attempts to overcome the traditional divisions of architecture, planning and development by bringing together urban, artistic, social and economic strategies with a wide range of experts, from the academic to the cultural world, who engage in the city.
The cooperative seeks to amplify the interest of individuals and communities through neighborhood-based initiatives, and to work with different governance structures and institutions. The cooperative has worked in different localities in Europe, Africa, South and North America with a wide range of local and international specialists, including geographers, anthropologists, sociologists, political-economists, environmentalists, artists, architects and urbanists.
Cohabitation Strategies co-founders are Lucia Babina, Emiliano Gandolfi, Gabriela Rendón and Miguel Robles-Durán.
